Published originally in 1905, Hern Bishop's Guardian tells the story of a young man trying to make his way in the world without a father.  Working for the railroad, the boy makes an error in judgment that could have been catastrophic but is saved from the consequences by a combination of his own good character and the good character of a man tasked by his late father's dying words to "look after the little lad..."

Found as a bonus at the back of a short novel by Mrs. Frank Lee (The Defense of Redleysburg), this short two-chapter piece of fiction by Coe Hayne (too short to even be called a novelette) is offered here by Travelyn Publishing at the lowest price allowed for a book distributed by Amazon.
